Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the city gate in order to sanctify the people by his own blood. Let us then go to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured. For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Through him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:12-16
Glory and Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.
Knowing the outcome of Jesus' death and resurrection and the phenomenal growth of Christianity, we sometimes forget that He was not always loved and adored. Many people actually hated Him and many others just ignored Jesus at the time He was living on this earth. This led to the cries of crucify him, crucify him! Jesus was not crucified in Jerusalem but outside the city like the animals that were sacrificed. Yet His blood was shed for all, in the city and out, in the major cities of the world today and in the suburbs, small towns and far outreaches of the world. What Jesus wants and deserves from each of us daily is praise, openly professing His name to all the world, and especially to our own little world.
We pray to God often, asking for favors, help and guidance, but remember, our prayer should always begin with praise and thanksgiving to God. In shedding His blood, Jesus gave us eternal life but also abundant life and love here on earth. Don't forget to share that life and love with all you encounter each day. Remember, you may be the only Jesus that person sees today.
I'll end with my favorite quote attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, "Preach the gospel every day. If necessary, use words."
