Family and Youth Events
Children are always welcome in worship, but if it is helpful to parents, childcare is also available in the nursery for children up to age four during the 9:00 am and 11:15 am services and during the 10:15 education hour on Sundays. The nursery is located in the Education Building, across the courtyard from the church; first-timers are invited to come into the church and ask an usher for directions. Children are normally brought into worship to be with their parents for Holy Communion.
Children’s Chapel meets during the 9:00 am service on Sundays, September through June. Children first gather with the congregation in church, and then depart to the singing of a special song of blessing for the Youth Building for chapel. They rejoin their families in the church for Holy Communion. Chapel includes a story, prayers, music and crafts or activities related to the morning's lessons. A trained music educator leads music twice a month.
Acolytes and other Worship Assistants
Children and youth regularly serve in worship by reading lessons, assisting at the altar, carrying the cross, or even administering Communion.
On special days the whole congregation gathers to celebrate an event or season in the church, such as:
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and burning of the palms
Celebration of Michaelmas - the feast of our patron saint - on the Sunday nearest September 29, with drama and a congregational potluck
Advent Event - crafts and activities to celebrate the beginning of the Advent season (the four Sundays before Christmas)
Christmas Eve - decoration of the church with hundreds of luminaries, and the Children's Christmas Pageant
